Greetings everyone. This is NOT the actual holiday special that aired last week. That episode will be coming soon, though unfortunately it likely won't be up before Christmas.

I wanted something to be posted though, so I put together this mix. This includes almost all of the holiday-related music I played on the Xmas show only as individual mp3s.

In this episode we have a tribute to the great drummer Jerry Fuchs. Fuchs played for a number of bands, many of which we've featured on the show. Tragically, Fuchs passed on November 8th. Many know Fuchs as the drummer for the phenomenal bandMaserati, but during his career he also drummed for The Martians, Turing Machine, !!!, and the Juan Maclean. I hope if you weren't already a fan, this set will open your ears to some amazing music.

We also feature a couple of tracks from Piero Umilianni. We've played him before on the show, but recently the wonderful blog The Library Hunt unearthed a treasure trove of Umilianni that is well worth your attention. The Library Hunt is a great site for fans of classic synthesizer music. Not to be missed.

Lastly, this episode also features some of our favorite songs played by machines, or to steal a phrase from Music for Maniacs, mechanical music:

Cybraphon:

Near the end of the program we feature a track from Cybraphon entitled "Coxsackie." The Cybraphon is the work of an Edinburgh-based art collective Found. This thing is awesome. The Cybraphon itself is a wardrobe filled with over 60 robotic parts which work to play the compositions heard in the recording. The Cybraphon also monitors its popularity on social networking sites such as Facebook etc... and its current popularity ratings determine what tunes it plays. This is obviously an over-simplified explanation. For the real-deal explanation simply click on this paragraph and explore the site. Felix's Machine:

Also featured is a tune from Felix Thorn's project "Felix's Machine." The track played is an excerpt of the song "Macrolight." Felix's Machines are music playing sculptures. While fantastic sounding, the full-effect is seeing and hearing these sculptures at work. We've featured videos on the site before, but if you want to explore the world of Felix's Machines, simply click on this paragraph and enjoy. You won't be sorry.
